Title: 2dtk works with free Unity?

I so far have had such a great experience with 2dtk I want to buy it for my friend.

However, he only has the free version of Unity. Will 2dtk work fully on the free version of Unity?

Yup, works fine (and is supported) in all versions of Unity, free, pro (3.57 and 4.x)

I guess my only other question is how would I go about buying it for him without logging in as him in the asset store, or is there no gifting option, and I'll just have to login as him?

That would be the easiest option, yes.
